This morning I woke far from home but again to the sound of crows, cawing change in their insistent way. I watched out the top floor window as a lone crow moved side to side along a high branch of a majestic Norfolk Pine, testing his weight as he shuffled his bulk along the length of the branch. The tree began to bow and bounce beneath him with every next step but still he continued to the very edge and there he sat, even as the wind ruffled all his feathers and the branch sagged as if to snap. Despite all the constant movement and whirling around him, above him and below him, he was still. Feathers ruffled and flight beckoning but he stayed his position until my attention was taken elsewhere, lesson learned.
